Overview

openSUSE is one from the Linux's family distributions Operative Systems that has taken over the open source software and enterprise server technologies market in '09.

Not only it is a robust Information Technology platform solution for supporting Small, Mid & large enterprise services needs, but also offers an attractive GUI (Graphic User Interface) that includes the most recent desktop from the Gnome and KDE projects, and many other desktops environments from the Unix core as well.

openSUSE includes all features to fill up a developer needs on the most powerful open source programing languages: Perl, Ruby, Python.

Provides a complete platform to Systems Administrator on several services like: DHCP, DNS,FTP, HTTP, Proxy & mail services Active Directory, and many others. Includes tools for Graphic Design like the 3D rendering animations, Blender; and so on.

Versioning for openSUSE

Software versions released for this distribution for last generations are: 11.0, 11.1 and 11.2. These versions includes kernels for x86 and x64 architecture CPUs and also Mac's as well, whit many hardware drivers for support; no hardware problems.

11.2 is the latest and more stable version and is also available on the official openSUSE web site for download (FREE) , a complete DVD for you to take your computer to the next level.

Desktop or Server, all in one.

Only one DVD for installation has all you'll need and more, you can check what you don't want to have and skip it; but most of all important in any Linux installation is to install all development packages so you can avoid having missing packages on your up coming software upgrades.

Rather than Ubuntu that offers a different version for Server Technology to enterprise systems admnistration, with the openSUSE DVD like many major distributions (Fedora, CentOS or RedHat) you can have a desktop solution or a server solution at home right away.

Windows emulation with Xen.

Xen, The Virtual Machine Manager

Xen, the virtual machine manager allows Linux to emulate a Windows OS in it's own instance, without rebooting the system and using the same hardware

Configuring Xen enables your system to the edge of virtualization and enables you to extend your knowledge about remote accesing, taking your experience to the closest related enterprise IT architecture functionality:
